The SmartSense control system maximizes both energy savings and comfort year-round, allowing you to control your Big Ass Fans with just the push of a button. It comes standard on Powerfoil®X3.0, and is available as an option on Powerfoil 8, Basic 6 and Essence.
Featuring three user modes — winter, summer and manual — SmartSense eliminates the human-error and hassle of fan operation by automatically matching the speed of your Big Ass Fans to seasonal conditions.
Winter Mode: SmartSense automatically adjusts the fan’s speed to destratify air, redirecting warm air trapped at the ceiling back down to the floor level to maintain consistent temperatures throughout the space. Result? You save on heating costs.
Summer Mode: Automatically adjusts fan speed based on the floor level temperature, creating a cooling effect that makes you feel up to 10°F (5.6°C) cooler. Result? Your employees feel comfortable and stay productive.
Manual Mode: Take the system off autopilot to manually direct fan operation. Result? You have total control over your domain.

MAXIMIZE WINTER SAVINGS
Hot air is lighter than cooler air, so it rises, creating a significant temperature difference between floors and ceilings. In large spaces with high ceilings, temperature differences reach up to 20°F (11°C). This natural phenomenon is known as stratification. In the winter, Big Ass Fans are slowed, not reversed, to efficiently destratify heat, circulating air back down to the floor level without creating a draft. This saves you up to 30% on heating costs because the process reduces both the load on your heating system and the amount of heat escaping through the roof.
By continuously monitoring ceiling and floor-level temperature, SmartSense automatically adjusts the speed of your fans to effectively destratify air. Big Ass Fans fully mix the air throughout the space, maintaining a consistent and even temperature, so you can be comfortable and save money year-round.

EFFICIENT SUMMER COOLING

SmartSense takes the guesswork out of determining the optimal air speed for cooling. As the indoor temperature begins to rise, the fans speed up, providing a larger cooling effect.
